2010 will prove to be a busy year for the Blue Flag programme as beaches prepare to ensure that the Soccer World Cup visitors get to enjoy our world-class Blue Flag beaches.   In spite of the fact that the soccer takes place in the middle of the winter and traditionally beaches would be closed for swimming during this period, many coastal municipalities have decided to keep their Blue Flag beaches open during the time visitors will be in the country, thereby ensuring that security, cleansing staff, lifeguards and all the facilities of the beach are in place during the day.   This level of service excellence will showcase these beaches and hopefully encourage our foreign visitors to come back sometime in the future.

The Blue Flag programme continues to grow sustainably around the country with new municipalities entering the programme and existing municipalities adding more and more beaches into Blue Flag.

The annual Blue Flag workshop, which brings together all municipalities currently participating in the programme as well as new municipalities and interested groups, will take place in Cape St Francis from Wednesday 21 April to Friday 23 April.  If anyone is interested in attending this workshop, contact the Blue Flag programme management.
